Staff News
We celebrate the appointment of Zoe Puiatti as Stage 2 teacher, commencing in Term 2. Zoe joins us after more than 5 years of service to the Redeemer Lutheran School community, Nuriootpa. We are particularly excited about this appointment, as we have worked closely with Redeemer staff on a number of occasions and recognise that our learning journeys and pedagogical beliefs are well-aligned.
As we celebrate the pending birth of Mrs Johnson's first child and give thanks for her time at Good Shepherd, we can also be confident that the transition for her current class, to a new teacher, will be well-managed.

NAPLAN
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) takes place each year for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 and has been an everyday part of the school calendar since 2008.
NAPLAN tests the sorts of skills that are essential for every child to progress through school and life, such as reading, writing, spelling, grammar and numeracy. It is important to remember that NAPLAN is not about passing or failing, but about assessing learning progress.
NAPLAN tests give you information on how your child is progressing against national standards. NAPLAN does not replace, but rather complements, assessments run by your child's classroom teacher throughout the year.
2020 NAPLAN testing window is in Term 2 from the 12 to 22 May. Most of our testing will be completed in the first week of the testing period.
2020 National Practice test will take place on Monday 23rd March.
Adjustments can be provided for students with disability to enable them to access the tests on an equivalent basis as students without disability, and should be discussed with our Learning Support Team prior to the tests. Most of these adjustments have already been documented in ILPs and SAPs and so no further communication is required.
Some students with significant intellectual disability and/or those with significant co-existing conditions which severely limit their capacity to participate in the tests may be exempted from sitting the tests.
Parents/Carers may withdraw their child from the tests to address issues such as religious beliefs and philosophical objections to testing. It is recommended that withdrawal be considered in consultation with your child's school. States and territories have different ways of managing student withdrawals, but formal notification must be received by the school principal prior to testing.
Forms for exemption or withdrawal are available from the Learning Support team.
Wherever possible, schools will organise for individual students who are absent at the time of testing to complete missed tests at another time during testing week.
