WHAT’S HAPPENING IN DANCE?
VMG DANCE START THE FIRST NATIONS CURRICULUM UNIT
On Friday, the Dance 1/2 (Block 6 class) presented their choreography task, based on the local dreamtime story “How the Murray River was made”. This task was a part of the first nations curriculum unit in Dance. Bangerang elder -Marlene Atkinson, Indigenous educator - Miranda Edwards, Principal - Mr. Murray and Assistant Principal - Ms. Utber attended the special presentation in the Dance Studio, which was very moving and demonstrated a much deeper understanding of our local Indigenous culture by the students. This class had the pleasure of visiting the Bangerang cultural centre last Tuesday as a part of their studies also. These students will complete their written research assignments on Indigenous Dance next week. We would like to thank Marlene, Clinton, Miranda and Kaitlin for all of their assistance with this unit. It has been fantastic!
The Senior Dance class (Block 5) have been working hard on their healthy dancer research projects and have had 3 exciting guest speakers so far this term. Jac Johnson – Personal Trainer, Al Green – Nutritionist and Carole McGregor – Psychologist. Students have been studying the topic “The Healthy Dancer” and looking at strength training, fuel for our bodies, resilience, positive thinking, mindfulness and self esteem. Students have also prepared and performed their own solos based on Dynamics, Symmetry, Asymmetry, Instrumentation and Form for assessment this week.
