Year 7 Badminton

We had a very excited team compete this week at the Monash Division round robin day. Brentwood has a large number of students who would love to be part of the team and the tryout sessions are truly competitive. Brentwood was represented by an A and a B team in both the girls and boys competitions.

Year 7 Boys

Both boys’ teams played exceptionally well and were undefeated for the day. The A team defeated Wheelers Hill A 6-0, Wellington A 6-0, South Oakleigh A 6-0, Brentwood B 6-0 and Wellington B 6-0.  The B team also defeated Wheelers Hill A 6-0, Wellington A 6-0, South Oakleigh A 6-0 and Wellington B 6-0. The B team only lost to our own Brentwood A team. Brentwood will now progress to the EMR competition on Friday August 9. Thank you to the student coaches Jordan Oomkaeo, Davin Cheng and Simon Lynn for their ongoing commitment to the team.

Again we had large interest from the year 7 girls to represent Brentwood. The girls were coached by Ms Warner and an ex-student Cynthia Mak. The girls played competitively throughout the day and dominated their competition. Well done. The Brentwood girls will represent the Monash Division at EMR on Friday August 9. Well done. Thank you also to the student coaches, Ingrid Ung, Pretisha Ganesh, and Hayoung Nho, who all supported the team and ran training sessions.

Year 7 Girls Netball

On Wednesday 12th June, 18 eager girls were ready to play some ball, netball! In the first round, both the A and B teams did very well in against Wellington, with the A team winning their first match 38 - 0 and the B team winning their first match 16 - 2. They continued their domination on court beating their second opponent, Wheelers Hill. The A team beat their A team, 27 - 6 and the B team beat their B team, 12 - 4. The A team were into finals and had to play against Wheelers Hill again, the game duration was shorter but that did not make a difference to their play, with some great defence and amazing attack the girls were able to win the final 14 - 3. The B team had their final match of the round and also managed to remain undefeated for the day coming out with a win against the Wheelers Hill C team, 6 - 2. The A team will be progressing onto Region which will be held on Wednesday 7th August.

There will be more training sessions to continue developing as a team. They were able to play some fantastic matches, both teams played really well. I was very proud of their behaviour and sportsmanship on the day. The guidance and encouragement from the student coaches was also fantastic, they were amazing, and their leadership with running warm ups and providing feedback during and after matches was outstanding. Well done to everyone involved on the day.

Senior Girls Softball

On Thursday 30th May, the senior girls softball team competed in the state finals at the Waverley Softball Centre. The girls persisted in less than ideal conditions, battling through the rain and sliding through the mud. Upon winning their pool, they encountered Canterbury Girls’ Secondary College in the grand final.  They had a rough start reaching the bottom of the first down three runs to zero. Determined to redeem themselves in the coming innings, the played some incredibly impressive softball to come back and take out the state championship with a final score of nine runs to three.

I would like to thank Deb Round and Sigrid Gramlick for all of their help on the day and over the years. They have both always been there for the girls and myself in scoring and coaching on base, and of course delivering treats for lunch. The girls and I really appreciate it!

Congratulations to the students below on becoming senior girls softball state champions for 2019. And thank you for being such an amazing and fun group to coach!
