Year 12
The TAS/VET faculty have been very busy over term 1. Our Year 12 classes have been working on their major projects during term 1.
- The 12 ITT and 12IPT classes have been working with Mr Peek and Miss Reynen on their projects
- The Year 12 Society and Culture class are in the process of conducting their various primary research methods for their Personal Interest Projects and they have just completed their unit on Popular Culture. I have organised two days, Wednesday 12 & Thursday 13 April in the first week of the holidays at school starting at 10am for my Society and Culture students to work on their Personal Interest Projects.
- Year 12 Engineering Studies have just completed their unit of work on Transport focusing on the development of bicycles.
- Year 12 Hospitality have been working on their holistic unit of work, this involves compiling an electronic folio of their work over the past two years and will continue into term 3. Our café in lower C block is now finished so next term they will organise and run the café to complete some of their competencies. The students will serve their customers coffees, a range of other beverages, cakes and light meals, this will give them the opportunity to showcase their skills.
Year 11
I must commend Year 11 on the way they have approached their work in Term 1. Our Year 11 classes have settled into their senior years very well. Stage 5 Hospitality are enjoying their course and all are working extremely well as a team in the kitchen, next term they will start learning how to make a variety of espresso coffees and will practise making many coffees for willing and interested staff.
Year 9 & 10
Year 9 are enjoying so many different things from making websites using HTMLCSS to making step stools to learning about nutrition and learning how to prepare some delicious meals!! Year 9 & 10 Food Technology have just completed their first practical assessment task, all students performed extremely well under assessment conditions and strict time constraints.
Year 8
Our junior classes are all buzzing!! Our Year 8 classes are also totally immersed in their learning and it is an absolute delight to visit the classes and see so much learning and fun being had by both the students and the teachers. This year saw the introduction of STEM to all of the Year 8 classes. The classes are working in the new STEM/Collaborative Learning Space in Lower C Block; this was the old Metal Technics room which has been redesigned into an innovative and wonderful learning environment. The STEM projects include working with the Lego EV3 kits to build robots, designing their own personalised USB’s using the 3D printer and Laser cutter, making their own amplifiers and learning about ecosystems with their own class fish tank and fish to take care of and observe the growth of wheatgrass and snow peas.
Questacon visited the school earlier this month and Year 8 all participated in the workshops. I must commend all of Year 8 for their excellent engagement and behaviour in these workshops.
Miss Greenwood has been busy down at the Ag farm working with Year 8 on the Paddock to Plate program, the classes are growing a multitude of herbs and next term we will have baby chicks to look after and watch grow!!
Miss Hodgson and Mrs Pratt have been working very hard with their Year 8 Tech Mandatory classes designing and making the most beautiful Easter biscuits and very cute felt monsters! Mr Peek has been making beautiful serving trays and spice racks with his classes to complement the Paddock –to- Plate program.
On Thursday many of our students enjoyed a day at the Easter Show. This is an extremely beneficial excursion for the TAS/VET faculty and encompasses many of our subject areas, from a range of different perspectives. I must thank Mrs Pratt for her planning and organisation and for making this excursion possible.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the teachers in the TAS/VET faculty for their hard work this term. We are all looking forward to a totally amazing term 2 and we wish all of our students and their families a wonderful Easter and a relaxing holiday.
