CAPA Report

Central Vision

Congratulations to the following year 10 students who have been successful in Central Vision: Jessey Ritchie, Matthew Mott, Jack Josephs, Karl Suczynski and Corbin Watman.

It is an honour for the students work to be chosen for this exhibition as it features the best student works from across Central Coast Public Schools. Their sculpture ‘Who Gives a Flying Fish – One day through evolution (pollution) fish may fly!!!!' is based on an environmental theme and is made from cane, tissue paper and shellac.

The students and their families attended the opening last Friday night 24 March 2017 and the exhibition will be open everyday at the Gosford Regional Art Gallery until April 24.

Emelia Gibson - 2016 Yr 12 - has won the Photographic, Digital Imaging and Film Prize for the film that was part of her Year 12 HSC Body of Work titled "Or a vision in a dream... a fragment".

Congratulations Henry Kendall High artists.

Check out this great exhibition over the next few weeks.

Henry Kendall High's Got Talent

What a fabulous set of concerts. Henry Kendall High's Got Talent was held over five days and featured many students performances from all ages. Sophie Eickelman (Year 11) took out the Grand Final on Friday with an impeccable score of 40/40 thanks to a sneaky 11/10 from Mr Backhouse (who is not doing the Art Teaching fraternity any favours in terms of our numeracy skills) and a dodgy 9/10 from our School Captains "Rohanwen" who played up the Red Symons/Simon Cowell nasty judge character quite well. Sophie takes home the $100 cash prize.

2nd Place very deservingly went to Sharnae Bergan and Mollie Brian from Year 7 who represented Middle School exceptionally well with their singing duet (and brought in a huge support base at the same time!) scoring a solid 35.5/40 despite a harsh 6/10 from Rohanwen.

3rd Place went to our dedicated Year 9 band featuring Stella Tufuga, Charlie Johnson, Willow Pratt and Shireen Rad. They scored a commendable 33/40.

4th Place went to the very talented Wanda Rassmussen from Year 10 who did our Special Education Unit very proud and danced exceptionally at both her heat and the Grand Final to Lorde's dark and mysterious cover version of the 80's Tears For Fears classic 'Everybody Wants To Rule The World'. Wanda scored 32/40.

A huge congratulations to all the other contestants who competed during the week - particularly Ananda and AJ in Year 10 who made it through to the Grand Final after a tie for first place on Tuesday with Wanda, but were unable to attend today and had to forfeit. We'll see more of these gentlemen for sure.

Kymberley Brooks, Hayley Kemble, Rayne Pene, Liam Horn, Sophie Eickelman, Wanda Rassmussen, Keira Henehan, Andrew McKaig, Ananda Ramadhan, Caitlyn Monaghan, Sharnae Bergan, Molly Brian, Oscar Tebbutt, Willow Pratt, Stella Tufuga, Charlie Johnson, Danielle Shepherd, Owen Butterworth, Nico Falzarano, Alliah Tabayag, Hudson Psarras, Eli Clarkson, Bradley Gibbs, Charlotte McLean, Corey Beaman

Stay tuned for our next CAPA showcase event early Term 2: "On Track" - a night of dining and casual music from our students held at the Gosford Racecourse (like we used to do at Lizotte's).

'Carmen'

Congratulations to Sophie Eickelman and Grace Oldfield of Year 11  who are appearing in the CCO production of the Opera 'Carmen' in May. Tickets are available from the Laycock Street Theatre.

Stop Press

Sophie Eickelman has just been informed she has been successful in the first round of the School Spectacular Featured Vocalist auditions and has been invited to perform for the panel. Congratulations Sophie!!

We also wish Sophie all the best in her live audition for the Talent Development Project to be held in the coming weeks!!.

Arts in Action

Visual Arts Camp

30 August 2017 - 1 September 2017

Visual Arts and Photography

Year 7 Visual Arts Workshops have had a lot of fun with learning to mix secondary colours and painting crazy shaped rainbows in a stormy sky. We have painted the sky practising crisp edges and sponge painting to build up texture. The addition of a fantasy element has resolved these very well. Great work by Ashlee Clark, Brianna Bale, Cody Soloman, Maria Galindo Borda, Mikayla Hartley, Mikayla Plant and Miranda Topp.

Year 8 Visual Arts have been exploring ideas about conceptualising and representing the self and have some app style paintings in development, and have completed some excellent quality research on Australian Artists.

Yr 11 Visual Arts have been exploring the topic of self portraiture, with a close examination of a metaphorical eye, and some expressive portraits in development. These works by Georgia Riley, Emily Hoyle, Ella Brooke, Nikau Davis, Mae Johnson, Lydia Fan and Xavia Scott show some of the amazing talent this class has.

Yr 12 Visual Arts are well under way with their major project for the practical component of this challenging course, the Body of Work. Included are some delightful photographs by Jay Knowling showing examinations of "looking at self" in some choice Central Coast locations. Well done Jay on this interesting work. We look forward to seeing its development.  Also some great oil paintings by Sabrina Pal, Connor Pearson and Paul Yun.

Year 11 Photography have explored Leading Lines in Architecture and presented some great black and white and digital photos on this topic. Congratulations to these students on their top work; Lachlan Grabner, Ella Brooke, Brittany and Briannah Koerber, Ellie Hegyessy, Maddy Lane, Shimara Knight-Taylor, Alex Singleton, Mariam Kemister and Jonas Ogston.

One of the funniest occurrences during this topic was when Brittany borrowed about 10 Year 7 students from class to pose for her photos in all sorts of positions around the school. This was a very creative way to approach the topic and we appreciate their cooperation.

Yr 12 Photography have been creating a series of ads, and some excellent work has come in early. The students had to create a new product or service or campaign with its own logo and a slogan and of course using their very own photography. Well done to Tiarna Miller, Jay Knowling and Tyler Gunn on your early and excellent quality work.

Ms Dawn Keft - CAPA Teacher

Year 11 Visual Arts students Nikau Davis, Abby Johnson and Mae Johnson will all be attending the Dobell School at the National Art School, Darlinghurst over the next holidays.

The students will participate in a number of workshops over a 4 day period, conducted by practicing artists in a tertiary environment. These include life, portrait and experimental figure drawing.

Students will exhibit there works at an exhibition on the final afternoon, with parents and staff invited.
