Dear Parents and Carers,

Today, we shared this video with our students as part of our online assembly highlighting some facilities improvements that we are currently undertaking to enhance our classroom learning spaces and outdoor play areas.

Outlined below some of the major works that have been completed or are currently underway to improve our school.

General Maintenance and Improvements

  • Internal painting in the Senior Administration Building, the Junior Building and classrooms 17-20 including all classrooms and offices. This is phase 1. We plan to paint more classrooms and the art room - phase 2 - next year.
  • Replace the metal roof above grade 6 classrooms / Hearing Unit which has been leaking.
  • Repair / replace all broken and missing slate tiles on the roof above the Senior and Junior Buildings
  • Replace the skylights above the Junior Hall in the Junior Building
  • Repair and wash the shade sails over the playground located near the Grounds cafe.
  • Replace all broken fly screens on windows throughout the school
  • Tree pruning and removal especially where trees are hanging over buildings. We have also removed the two large cypress trees at the front of the school which were not suitable species for this location.
  • Installation of an irrigation system in the garden beds located next to the relocatable classrooms. After the irrigation system is installed, we will plant low growing native shrubs and mulch the garden beds.

Classroom Furniture

In addition, we are planning to replace all classroom furniture in all Prep to Grade 6 classrooms to further enhance and update our classroom learning spaces. We are working collaboratively with a team of Prep - Grade 6 teachers who are members of our Learning Spaces team. This team has been conducting research on contemporary classroom learning spaces as well as making decisions about how best to improve our school especially the classrooms.

Classroom Libraries

We are in the final stages of ordering shelving units, book boxes and books to create classroom libraries in every classroom P-6. This will support and enhance our approach to teaching reading and writing. You may remember PFC were organising a book drive to help supply our libraries with books in addition to school purchased resources. We will proceed with the Book Drive as soon as it is safe to do so- please keep collecting, sorting and storing those high quality secondhand books in preparation.

We also appreciate and value the strong support we have received from our School Council as we make these much-needed improvements to our school while most students are learning from home.
