Then & Now

Here’s a few photos of Ms Shelley as a youngster. A few things haven’t changed, she still loves her family pets (her current dog is the beautiful Sam), barracking for her beloved Hawks remains a favourite pastime and she still enjoys cooking, which is lucky, since she is a Home Economics teacher.

As a child she didn’t think she would end up becoming a teacher, but she loved her Home Economics teacher at Blackburn High and her mum was the kitchen assistant at the same school.

Once she finished her HSC she decided to do a Home Economics Bachelor's Degree

at Rusden and she hasn’t looked back, celebrating her 30th year as a teacher in 2020.

Ms Shelley has many fond memories of her time as a student. A particularly exciting moment came when she was in Year 10 and she competed in the School State Netball Championships, playing as a Goal Attack.

Ms Shelley’s time at Healesville High School has been a positive experience. She’s made some fantastic friends and is appreciative of the wonderful students she has met along the way. Ms Shelley’s partner, Sergeant Tony Van Gorp passed away in 2010 and during this tough time Ms Shelley was pleased she worked in such a caring community and is grateful for the support she received.

Thanks for sharing Ms Shelley and congratulations on your 30 years.
