TERM 3 - WEEK 7

To the St Nicholas School Community

Welcome to Week 7, Term 3.

St Nicholas School is committed to a positive working relationship with our parents. As a staff, we understand our responsibility to work with our parents, as you are the first and foremost educator. A positive working relationship does not mean we always have to agree, though it does mean we have a voice and the children witness a united front.

St Nicholas School is currently seeking parent perspectives on the daily operation and improvement processes of our school. Please take a moment to complete the survey which has been emailed to you directly by info@surveymyschool.com.au. If you have not received your survey, please check your spam before contacting one of the ladies in the front office.

School Uniform

The uniform is an integral component of a school. A uniform brings with it a sense of belonging and when worn correctly, reflects a student's pride in themselves, their family, and the school.

Like learning, the uniform should not be founded on the way our parents were educated, but rather on the needs of the current day student. In 2018 St Nicholas School progressed to our students wearing their sports uniform two days a week. Our St Nicholas School sports uniform provides a sense of belonging, enables the student to reflect pride and matches an approach to learning based on flexibility, movement, and engagement. A question to ponder, should our students be wearing their sports uniform 3 or even 4 days a week?

With the weather warming and to support our students, from Monday either the full winter or full summer uniform is acceptable.

Year 1 Tabloid games.

As a school community, we continue to support our children’s active lifestyle, particularly with COVID-19 restricting annual events. Enjoy the short clip below of Year 1 hopping, skipping, and jumping their way through last Friday.

Father’s Day

Children benefit greatly from having fathers who are present and interacting in everyday activities. This Sunday is an opportunity to stop for a moment and thank the fathers in our lives.

St Nicholas School has a long and proud history of celebrating Father's Day in our own unique way. COVID-19 has stopped this happening onsite, though please keep an eye out tomorrow (Schools Newsletter Portal and Facebook page) for our special acknowledgment! You will also hopefully hear a wonderful dad joke or three!

On a personal note, fatherhood is the greatest accomplishment of my life. My children have and continue to make me a better person each and every day. I have also continued to grow in my role as an educator through being a father. To all our St Nicholas School fathers and carers, thank you for the positive impact you have on our students. I wish each and every one of you a happy and restful day on Sunday.

Have a great week

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

RE:  COMPASS PARENT PORTAL

Compass is St Nicholas School's new Student Information system.

On Monday 31st August parents and guardians were sent home a Parent Portal Compass login and temporary password by email. This email guides parents to login to their parent portal. Parents and carers will only be able to access their own student's details and information. This email will only be sent to parents or guardians of the students.

Compass Parent Portal

Parents will initially be able to view their child’s attendance and provide reasons at to why their child is absent or late to school. When Compass is fully operational parents and guardians will be able to use the Parent Portal to: -

  • Book your Parent/Student/Teacher conferences
  • View up-to-date class and school attendance information
  • Approve past absences for your child
  • Enter upcoming absences for your child
  • Access your child's Student Semester Reports
  • Download, print and approve upcoming excursions
  • Update your registered email and mobile number (used for SMS alerts)
  • Access information regarding upcoming events and news.

We ask that all parents make an effort to join the Parent Portal and when completing online information (eg. student absence), give as much detail for our office staff to be fully informed.    The Parent Portal will certainly make your life easier.

Compass Information

  • If you are a parent and you do not receive your email please contact the school.
  • If you follow the instructions in the email and you are unsuccessful logging into Compass please contact the school.
  • Both parents and guardians of the students will receive an individual Compass login and passwords. For security purposes, please DO NOT  share Compass logins and passwords with your family.
  • It is very important that you DO NOT share your login details with your children. When the school decides to introduce the students to Compass they will give the students their own login and password details to access the student Compass portal.

We look forward to communicating with you through the Compass Parent Portal. Any questions please contact the school office.
