Music News

The finals of the Killester Solo competition were held on Wednesday and Thursday night and we were treated to some excellent musicianship from all the finalists in the four categories. It is really warming to hear how far some of our younger players have come in the one or two years they have been learning. It was also great to hear how hard our senior students have been working across the lockdown. Our adjudicator, Jessica Foot, gave all of the performers detailed constructive feedback on their performances in a very personal and friendly manner which I'm sure all the girls appreciated.

As is the way of competitions there has to winners and we would like to congratulate the following girls:

Claire Piechocki - Alto Saxophone - 2nd place

Sumitha Pasupuleti - Voice - 3rd place

Sharna Trinh - Voice - 2nd place

Tanysha Theodore - Flute - 3rd place

I would really like to thank all of the instrumental staff; Jenny Vallins, Alison Budgen, Jeff Vague, Sharon Batterham, Lizzie Koutnetsova, Anita Marcou, Katy Addis, Emma Yarosh and Connor Anderson-Vague for their expertise and hard work in preparing our girls for this competition. They are instrumental (ha-ha) in the functioning of the music department. Without them we would not have our ensembles and nights like this. Thanks also to all the parents/carers who have supported the girls through this lockdown. The results and the participation speak for themselves. Lastly, thanks to every student who put a video in for the competition. It takes some courage to enter something like this and as our adjudicator said, you'll need these skills in the new music world that has arrived. Bravo!
