What's happening in the 3/4 classrooms

Welcome to the last week of term and congratulations on a fantastic effort during Home Learning. Your continued enthusiasm and resilience throughout this time has been extraordinary to see. Mrs Sykes and Miss Newbound are very thankful to the families and are proud of all the students for their hard work - Well done!

It has been an incredibly busy time in the Middle School with both Year 3 and 4 students completing their Information Text on their chosen Natural Disaster Topic.  Students have developed an understanding of the causes of how Natural disasters and their effect on Place  Space around us. The students have also decided to present this information in a variety of ways, including dioramas, board games, digital brochures and more.

In Mathematics, students have been learning to read, make and model fractions such as halves, thirds, quarters and fifths. In Year 4, students have been using their knowledge of fractions to learn about mixed numerals, where a whole number and a fraction are combined. For example 1 ½ = one whole and one half or ‘one and a half’. With this understanding, students have also begun to learn about decimals and how they relate to fractions.

In Religious Education, students have focused on Sacred spaces in the Bible, at school, in the community and at home. This week 3/4 students spent some time creating a Sacred space for themselves and their family in their own home where they can pray and be mindful.

As part of their Social and Emotional Learning, Middle School students have chosen to practice a new skill and were encouraged to use Positive Self Talk and a Growth Mindset to show Persistence. In class conversation, some students described their challenges and also outlined how they used perseverance to keep trying when it became too hard. Great work, 3/4!

We hope you have a safe and relaxing school break and we look forward to seeing you all next term!
