What's happening in the Junior classrooms

Wow! We are at the end of Term 3, and the Junior School has learnt so much throughout their distance learning journey.  I congratulate the students for their engagement and enthusiasm.

Last week, the Junior students presented their final information reports about their chosen season. There were a variety of different video topics: summer, autumn, winter and spring. Some students decided to dress up and make posters to showcase alongside their reports. The students also included the Indigenous season (Gariwerd) that matched their topic. A big “well done” to all the juniors for presenting their learning!

The Junior School learnt about Prayer during Religious Education. In Foundation, Year 1 and Year 2, they explored Prayer Spaces and sacred symbols such as the cross, crucifix, Bible, candles and liturgical colours. Students have shown their learning by writing their prayers. They have enacted their HEART values by sending positive thoughts to others.

In Mathematics, the Junior School has been learning about a variety of topics. The Year 1s have developed their knowledge of Place Value by using the “split strategy” to break up numbers before adding them together. For example: 12 = 10 + 2 and 64 = 60 + 4. They then went on to learn about fractions and money. The Year 2s also learnt about fractions, as well as length and area.

Foundation students have been learning about how problems are a normal part of life and distinguishing between ant and elephant problems. The Year 1/2 students created their very own monsters for Social and Emotional Learning. They selected from the emotions of Disappointment, Frustration, Anger, Calm and Pride.

What a fantastic term it has been for the Junior School. Please have a wonderful break, and we look forward to seeing you all again in Term 4.
