What's happening in the 5/6 classrooms
Everything is coming together beautifully for the 5/6 students as they finalise their learning for a busy term 3. The Seniors have explored space and our solar system by researching information on their given topics. Each student had a choice on the way they wanted to present their information. Some students chose to use “Book Creator” ( see some examples of student pages below) while others created posters.
Students rehearsed their presentations via recordings on Seesaw. They self-assessed their speaking skills before their presentations.
Finally, on Monday or Tuesday, the students presented in front of their peers and conducted peer assessments after each presentation.
In Mathematics, the seniors have completed a unit on Location, tying in the Geospatial skills of mapping. Students learnt about the six elements included in maps: Border, Orientation, Legend, Title, Scale and Source. Using the acronym BOLTSS can help them recall each aspect.
The Seniors also completed their Religious Education unit guided by the big question: “Where Do We See God?”
They interpreted the Nicene Creed by using a thinking routine: "Sentence, Phrase, Word.”
Sentence “He will come again in glory to judge the living and dead and his kingdom will have no end.” - By Sierra
“God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, Begotten, not made, consubstantial with the father.” - By Andee-Lei | Phrase “I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and life of the world to come.” - By Tamia
“I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, only begotten son of God, born of the Father before all ages.” - By David | Word “visible” - By Celeste
“Glorified” - By Shakthi
“ True” - By Andee-Lei |
At the end of the Social and Emotional Learning unit students reflected on their understanding of being a persistent and independent learner, their reflections included using positive self-talk, having a growth mindset, believing in the power of 'Yet', and setting goals.
As we conclude term 3, we all remain hopeful that the Seniors can return to learning at school. Stay positive, enjoy the extra time you are spending with your family and look forward to another term of learning.
