LIBRARY NEWS

This Week in the Library

Welcome to week 8 and another busy week in the library with exciting things happening. This week we're continuing to explore the shortlisted Books of the Year with infants’ classes reading ‘We’re Stuck’ by Sue Degennaro and Stage 2, 'Nop’ by Caroline Magerl. Stage 3 will finish using the CBCA judges' criteria to choose their winners of the Early Childhood Book of the Year section, I wonder if they will agree with the judges?

Final Premier’s Reading Challenge Reminder

I’m not sure who is more excited, the children or myself, but the PRC is nearly done. This Friday (11/9/20) is the FINAL day to return completed reading records to the library for validation. Thank you to all the families who have supported this reading challenge, I really appreciate the commitment it takes to see it through (especially for families of younger children), the good news is, it’s nearly over! Once I validate all the records, the PRC administrators process the records and certificates are sent during Term 4.

New Books

One of my favourite things to do is wander through the children’s book section of a book shop and choose new stories for our students to read. This week I was able to purchase some fantastic new book packs that I hope your children will enjoy. If there are any older parents out there like me, do you recall the Meg & Mog books? I still remember these and now hope to share them with a new generation. We’ve added to the Choose Your Own Adventure genre and also some new Easy Readers series too. And who doesn’t want to read Dharma the Llama or the new Dog Man: Grime & Punishment? I think they'll run off the shelves.

Thank You

Thank you to the Cody family for their kind donation of the most unique geography book we’ve seen, 'Our World' by Sue Lowell Gallion & Lisk Feng. Their grandmother works at the publishers and was able to get us a copy hot off the presses! Everyone’s loving looking at it.

General Reminders

I have recently received from the Inverell Town Library some of our library books that were returned there instead of to school. Could I please ask that before you return anything to the town library, please ensure that they are not the school’s books. Thanks for your help with this. Also, if anyone has any plastic bags that we could use as spare library bags when children forget to bring one, that would be really appreciated.

Book Club

Thank you to all the families who ordered from the Term 3 Book Club. Orders closed on Friday and usually take two weeks to arrive.

What’s Your Favourite Roald Dahl Book?

Let the debates begin - Charlie or Matilda? The Twits or The Witches? What is your favourite Roald Dahl book? This Sunday 13th of September is World Roald Dahl Day and despite the age of these amazing stories and rhymes, they are still some of the most borrowed books in the library. My favourite? Danny, Champion of the World. For more information about this, visit here.

Happy reading,

Mrs Toni Fraser
