MUSIC NEWS

Welcome back to Term 4. What an incredible different year we have had so far. There have been some amazing challenges that the students and staff have had to overcome and I am so proud of the resilience that staff, students and parents have shown over this past year.
STRING AND PERCUSSION LESSONS
It is amazing to see the string and percussion lessons start again with the Years 7, 11 and 12 students this week. Here is an excited group of Year 7 cello students working with their teacher (Ms Christine Vincent) in one of the music rooms earlier this week.
GIGS ON THE SCREEN
Gigs on the Screen will continue for the foreseeable future. Any student who is interested in participating should contact me directly (ppw@mckinnonsc.vic.edu.au) so I can direct them through the process.
This fortnight we welcome to the screen stage:
- Year 11 student Dana Boudiab performing Lovely;
- Year 8 student Jack Sweeney performing Mad World;
- and from Year 7, Susana O’Leary performing Human.
We are also excited to present the Year 7 Band performing a locked down version of “Dragonfire” by Paul Lavendar.
Thank you to Mr West for his organisation of this fantastic group of students.
VCE MUSIC
VCE Music Performance and Music Investigation students are about to start their performance exams, and we wish all of them the greatest success in these exams.
MUSIC EDUCATION
Many parents will now be aware of the restrictions on Brass, Woodwind and Vocal instruments in schools. It is pleasing to note that there has been some movement on these restrictions in the regional areas of Victoria. We are hoping that the discussions that the agencies at a Government level are having are working towards a change for metropolitan schools.
Whilst the ban is in place, parents should rest assured that all instrumental teachers are working on ensuring that a full music education is still being delivered for students.
