Principal's Report

April News
We have had a very smooth start to term 2. Two new staff members have joined the school. Ailsa Kerr has taken up an Education Support position, replacing Raina Carvell, who has left the school to move back to Queensland with her family. Raina, as a matter of interest, is the first staff member to leave us since the school opened. Erin Squires joins the teaching team, replacing Zsuzsa Kincs, who began Family Leave last week.
We thank Raina most sincerely for her years of wonderful service to our school and wish her, and her family, all the very best on their new adventure. We also wish Zsuzsa all the very best of good luck for the upcoming birth of her first child.
New Storage Garage
You may have seen our new storage garage that has been built behind the gym. The garage will be used mainly to store classroom materials related to our play based learning. Play based learning is a wonderful learning environment but it is certainly very resource intensive. The garage will allow us to shelve equipment not currently being used in classrooms.
NAPLAN
NAPLAN testing will begin for year 3 and 5 students soon. The NAPLAN testing is a national test for all students in years 3 and 5 in literacy and numeracy. All parents of students in these year levels will have received further information.
“May the 4th Be With You”
This month, we had a Star Wars Jedi knight visit assembly to speak to all of the students about National Family Reading Month – “Read More in May”. He announced that “Read more in May” will begin on Monday, May 4th which all of our knowledgeable Star Wars fans know, is a significant celebration – “May the force (4th) be with you”.
On May 4th, a Star Wars Storm Trooper will visit our library. Any student who brings along their favourite book, can have their photo taken with the Storm Trooper. How exciting! More information about National Family Reading month will come home to families soon.
Prep Tours
For you, or anyone you know, who is enrolling a Prep student for 2016, school tours will begin soon. To join one of the tours, just call the school and register our name. Tours will be held at the following times:
· Tuesday, 5th May - 9.30am
· Wednesday, 6th May - 9.30am and 7pm
· Thursday, 7th May – 5pm
Mother's Day and Mother's Day Stall
Mother’s Day approaches and on Sunday, May 10th, lots of mums will get burnt toast for breakfast, hand-made cards and children bouncing on their beds.
Of course, the luckiest mums of all will be those whose children have bought a gift from the Lyndhurst PFA Mother’s Day Stall! Dads, don’t forget to send along a few dollars for a lovely pressie on Thursday, May 7th.
ANZAC Day
Thank you to all of those children and families who came to the ANZAC Day ceremony in Cranbourne. Jonathon Ngodora and Jasminder Gakhal lay a wreath on behalf of the school community and many other students came along in school uniform, cub and scout uniform or representing local sporting groups.
We also had a lovely ceremony at school last Friday and the children were most respectful. Thank you to those children who brought flowers to lay at our flag pole. Particular thanks to our student leaders who wrote and presented very thoughtful pieces about the importance of ANZAC Day and what it meant to them.
House Cross Country
The House Cross Country was a great success recently, with all of the children competing and having fun in a wonderfully supportive and encouraging environment.
The event showcased some very talented runners but it was also fun for everyone and all about full participation. Many of our best runners will go on to compete in the District Cross Country in the next couple of weeks.
