Literacy & Numeracy Week

National Literacy & Numeracy Week
National Literacy and Numeracy Week (NLNW) is an annual event celebrating the importance of literacy and numeracy to future learning, life participation and work opportunities. This year, SHS participated in this event through various activities during the week 29th August – 2nd September.
On Tuesday 30th August, the library hosted a Numeracy Day during lunchtime. Various mathematical activities and games were available for students to play and enjoy with their peers and staff. Some students also participated in numeracy and problem solving challenges in their TA time throughout the week.
In addition, we launched our READ-O 8 week reading competition. This challenge aims to encourage students and staff to enjoy reading various text types and document their reading journey on an A4 READ-O game board. Raffle tickets are earnt by completing squares on the game board.
Over $200 worth of vouchers will be awarded to winners from junior, middle and senior levels. Game boards are to be submitted to the library before Friday 21st October. Winners will be drawn and announced on this date.
How can you assist in developing your child’s literacy & numeracy skills?
Please encourage your child to collect a READ-O game board from the library and participate in the challenge. Then, continue to check on their progress before October 21st.
