Genius Hour - Space

The middle students have been busy this term working on their Genius Hour projects. The theme was space which sparked many ideas and research topics. It has been fantastic to see the resilience students have shown when their displays haven't gone to plan or they have found the research hard. It was great to see the excellence that demonstrated in completing the task to the best of their abilities, which even included choosing to for go some recess time to make sure they would be finished in time.

On Thursday, the middle students had the opportunity to present their projects to the school. This was a confronting experience for some students but it was great to see how well they kept moving forward and showing pride in what they had done.

Here are some students reflections on the Genius Hour process:

In Genius Hour this year we had space as our topic. Lots of people had different ideas, one person was even doing a cake! Lots of people used boxes but used them for different things, for example I did a small area of Earth with a person, sky and grass. I really enjoyed Genius Hour because I really like Space. I also included a poster on Earth. - Catherine L

Middle School Genius Hour: It was really hard ti come up with an idea, but I did have a good idea within 2 days. I feel like it was challenging but I was really inspired that everyone wanted to do other things, but I wanted to do a Solar System diorama. - Lily M

For Genius Hour this year I did stuff that could happen in the future and stuff about aliens and the goldi-lock's zone. I made a tupperware UFO, a wood star, a poster and a box with drawings. I really liked doing Genius Hour because I liked making the star. - Luke C

In Genius Hour we have made a project about space. You could do it about just one planet or you could do it altogether or a solar system. I enjoyed Genius Hour, it was really fun to present to Foundation, Junior School and Senior School. - Ashlee K
