Term 4 is racing to an end
We are now over half way through Term 4. Swimming Week was a great success, with our students practicing their swimming strokes and learning about water safety. Their respect towards their instructors and resilience to finish a long and tiring week with a smile on their faces were a credit to KPS. Well Done Junior School!
Next Monday (18th November) is a Celebration Day. Students are encouraged to come in fancy dress. (no gold coin donation is required). Next Friday (22nd November) is our last school disco for the year.
Literacy Focus
Our students have been working hard researching and gathering pictures for their information reports. There has been much discussion about habitats and food, physical features and other interesting facts. Our reading focus is analysing texts. We are discussing themes and author's purpose, as well as interesting literary techniques and vocabulary.
We are asking for all Library Books to be returned in preparation for our stock take.
Numeracy Focus
We have been investigating 2D shapes and 3D objects. We can classify shapes according to their number of sides and whether they are straight or curved and sort objects into pyramids and prisms. We have made patterns of symmetry and made pictures and patterns by flipping, sliding and rotating shapes.
Humanities Focus
In our history unit we compared clothing from 100 years ago with what we wear today. We really enjoyed making models of the different clothing - lacy dresses, checked shirts and hats were some of the creations.
In our geography unit we are studying the weather. We looked at the weather forecast for a week and compared it to the actual weather each day. We found out the forecast was not too different to the weather we experienced.
