Weeks 5&6

With a short week and a long week we counting down the weeks till the big man comes!  Can you believe there's only 5 weeks left of the term!?!? I'm right into report writing now and enjoying seeing our students growth over the year.  See in the above photo we have completed the PREMIER'S READING CHALLENGE! Each year the Victorian initiative rolls out the challenge for students who are to share a love for literacy and read 30 books over Terms 2 and 3.  This was an easy target for us sharing many favourite and new books and authors during this time.  Your child will participate in this each year at school and it opens great discussions as a part of our daily reading!

Read below for our latest learning focus!

MATHS - students have been developing their understanding and fluency with subtraction.  Students are consolidating basic number facts and learning that our counting sequence can be forwards and backwards.  Students have used hands on materials to see and model questions. They have worked on problem solving when working through subtraction stories and how they can model the problem. Today students completed their post test on the topic and I look forward to seeing their growth.

READING - we've been developing our schema.  Using picture clues and author's words to gather new knowledge has been interesting!!!! Keep up the great book discussions at home as this all supports your child's comprehension and understanding of texts.

WRITING - we've been busy gathering animal facts and learning how to write a fact (and not our opinion) and include headings as part of an information report.  We will be finishing these and uploading to SeeSaw next week! Check us out exploring what good writer's do in books!

Library

Please return all library books next week as we are preparing for the end of year stock take.  Thanks for your cooperation. 

Excursion to Mornington Beach

Thanks to everyone for paying and giving permissions.  We are heading to the beach on Tuesday 3rd December!! If you would like to join us for this experience please come and see me!
