Finley Plain English Speaking Comp

On Friday 17 May, Isabelle Williams and I (Alex Smith) competed in the Plain English Speaking Award held at Finley High School. Other schools that participated included Finley High School and Albury High School.

For the prepared section speakers spoke for 8 minutes on a topic of their choice. Isabelle spoke about Lyme disease carried by ticks and how this devastating disease is not recognised in Australia. I spoke about how technology is making us think less and how  we should exercise our brains by learning new things.

For the impromptu sections speakers spoke for 3 minutes using the stimuli “Bright Idea”. Isabelle spoke about climate change and how there needs to be a government policy preventing it as well as our role at home caring for the environment. I spoke about Thomas Edison’s invention, the light bulb, how it changed the world and the way renewable energy should be introduced gradually.

Isabelle won the regional final and will be proceeding to the next level. I came Runner-Up. Congratulations to Isabelle and thank you to Miss Moylan for the organisation and for driving us to Finley.

Young Performers Concert

On Tuesday our Primary co-curricular music students performed over 30 musical items on piano, violin, cello, vocals and drums. We were also joined by our Jr. Strings Ensemble and Jr. Drumline.

Well done to students on a fantastic showcase and to our Teachers and Tutors for your dedication in the lives of our up and coming young talent.

Keep your eyes out for a video of the performances over on our YouTube channel.

Steam Engine visit

Primary Students were lucky enough to have one of the Steam Engines that will be on display at the Steam rally over the long weekend come and visit the school.

They learnt the history behind the engine, how it works and even got to see it working!

Bag of Smilez

Last week Year 8 students Alysha Toohill, Hetti Jones and Marli Mckenna visited the Emergency Department at Echuca Regional Health to drop off the 'Bags of Smilez' as part of their community initiative. Students created 250 bags to be gifted to children across 3 age groups, ranging from 3 - 11 year olds.

Well done girls on spreading kindness and compassion within our community!

Year 11 Biology

In Year 11 Biology, students have been studying the digestive system, making a replica with everyday objects.

Stockings, funnels and beakers formed the basis for the human body. Banana and yoghurt created the food to be 'digested' and golden syrup, vinegar, bi-carb soda and various other elements were there to 'assist' in digestion.

An interesting class full of laughs and a great way to learn about the human body!

Jamison McFadden

Year 9 student Jamison McFadden is off to compete with the Victorian Trampoline Sports Team for Tumbling at the Gymnastics Australia Championships at Melbourne Arena this week.

Jamison will be competing in National Level 6 Tumbling in what will be her fourth competition. She is one of 13 athletes on the Victorian Tumbling Team.

Jamison headed to Melbourne this Wednesday for state training, and will compete on Sunday.

We wish Jamison all the best for her competition.

Jayda Richardson

Congratulations Jayda Richardson on being selected for the AFLW U16 Country Squad. What an achievement.

Selected in the A grade netball squad, Captain of the inaugural youth girls football team, selected in the U16 Country Squad and quite possibly the nicest person you might meet. It's been a big year for Jayda and it's only May.

Well done Jayda, very well deserved.
