Jenna Menelaou - Olympic Change-Maker Award

The Australian Olympic Change-Maker Program seeks to identify and bring together young leaders in sport who are ‘making a difference’ in their school or local community.

Earlier this term I nominated Jenna Menelaou of Year 12 for the Australian Olympic Change-Maker Award. Jenna has been actively involved in sport for the past nine years of her life at Oakleigh Grammar. In that time, Jenna has consistently demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities. Her active involvement in all intra and inter-school sporting events has inspired many of our students to participate, get involved and strive to be the best they can be. Jenna can often be seen providing guidance and encouragement to her peers and to our younger students during inter-school sporting events. On and off the playing field, Jenna demonstrates the attributes of friendship, sportsmanship and striving for excellence, which are all qualities consistent with the Olympic spirit.

As part of the nomination process, Jenna was required to submit a one minute video which actively demonstrates how she is displaying leadership through sport in her School. Follow the link to view Jenna’s video. I am delighted to announce Jenna’s nomination was accepted, and as an Olympic Change-Maker Award recipient, Jenna attended the Olympic Change-Maker Forum on Wednesday 4th September. Jenna described her Olympic Change-Maker forum day as “one of the best school days ever”. Jenna met and heard from many past and current Olympians. She described Steve Hooker’s (Australia’s Olympic Pole Vault Gold Medalist from the 2008 Beijing Olympics) address to the Olympic Change-Maker forum as particularly inspiring.

Congratulations Jenna, the Oakleigh Grammar Community is extremely proud of your achievements.

EISM Winter Season Grand Finals

Oakleigh Grammar continued its 2019 sporting success with a number of premiership wins during the recent EISM Winter Season Finals. A huge thank you to our Year 12 cohort who have supported Oakleigh Grammar’s sporting program by continuing their sporting commitments in their final year of studies.

Our premiership winning teams recently enjoyed a pizza lunch in which they celebrated their premiership success.

Senior Boys Soccer Team

Our Senior Boys Soccer Team produced a thrilling 1-0 victory over the previously undefeated Rudolf Steiner. In very challenging weather conditions, Lewis Arampatzis produced a brilliant individual performance to slot the premiership winning goal. His goal-scoring feat won Lewis the MVP medallion as the best player in the Grand Final. Thank you to Mr Panagopoulos for coaching and managing the Senior Boys Soccer Team this year.

Senior Boys Futsal Team

This year Oakleigh Grammar entered two Boys’ teams into the Futsal Competition. After the home and away season, Oakleigh 1 finished on top of the ladder and progressed through to the semi-finals, where they defeated a strong Kingswood College team. A fiercely fought Grand Final against Bialik College saw Oakleigh Grammar come out on top to take the Futsal Premiership. <
