Senior School

SHARRON FRAME

Head of Senior School

As the term finishes, our Year 12 students have an opportunity to look back on their time here at Oakleigh Grammar. Next term we will celebrate with their parents at two very important events in the School calendar. The School Community will come together for the Farewell Assembly and Graduation Dinner on October 24th. These are truly my most favourite events of the year because of the significance of both. Watching students progress through the different year levels, and seeing them develop into informed and capable young adults ready to transition into life after School, provides meaning for each staff member involved in the process.

The last few weeks of this term are always hard, and often filled with tears for our VCE students, as we rush to complete the teaching of content and the required assessment. Term 4 will begin with intensive revision in preparation for the external examinations, which begin on Wednesday October 30. It is important that our graduating class understand their responsibility, to continue to model approaches that allow them to Reach New Heights.

Trial Exams

VCE Trial Exams for students undertaking Unit 3 & 4 studies will take place in Week 2 of the term break, from September 30th to October 3rd. Students have received a copy of the timetable. They are required to arrive a minimum of 30 minutes prior to the commencement of each examination, and be dressed in full uniform (not sport uniform). The examinations will be held in the Conference Centre.

Year 11 Formal

Staff and students came together to enjoy each other’s company outside of the classroom, for an evening of dancing and dining. Thank you to the staff who joined the Principal, Year 11 students and myself for the evening.

School Captain Nominees

Students from our Year 11 cohort put forward their names for nomination, as School Captain of Oakleigh Grammar for 2020. Their decision to run for this office highlights their courage and commitment to serve the School Community of Oakleigh Grammar. Each was required to produce a speech that they presented at the Middle and Senior School assembly on September 10th. The School Community has voted, and the results will be announced at the Middle and Senior School Awards Evening in December.

Congratulations to:

Year 10 Work Experience

Members of the Year 10 cohort are currently experiencing life as an employee in the real world, as part of their Work Experience Program. The realisation that working days commence at 8.30am to 9.00am or earlier, and finish around 5.00pm can be a shock to the system, but more importantly, work experience immerses them in the adult world. It also serves to help determine if a potential career choice is for them. Career Advisor, Michelle Mascaro, will be checking in with our students to see how they are faring during the week.

Year 10 Reach New Height Awards

At the last Middle and Senior School assembly, it was decided to recognise students within Year 10 for their contribution to the School Community, by awarding them the Reach New Heights Awards. The well-deserving recipients are as follows:
