2019 NAPLAN Results

In May of this year a large number of schools across the state, including Oakleigh Grammar, took part in the online delivery of the NAPLAN tests for Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 students. The assessment involved Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar & Punctuation and Numeracy tests.

Although NAPLAN results are a snapshot of a student’s achievements in Literacy and Numeracy on the day of testing, the results do provide diagnostic information for parents and teachers about a child’s performance. At Oakleigh Grammar, this information is used to support teaching and learning programs, and improve student learning outcomes.

Parents would have received their child’s personal report. The report described your child’s particular skills in Reading, Writing, Spelling, Grammar & Punctuation and Numeracy. The report also shows how your child performed in relation to national minimum standards. These describe minimum acceptable standards for students across Australia.

The NAPLAN student results were made available to the School just recently. The Oakleigh Grammar results showed significant improvement, demonstrating the benefit of the outstanding teaching and learning programs across the School.

Congratulations to all the Junior School students on their performance in the NAPLAN tests. Year 3 students performed strongly in all test domains. The median test score in each test domain was above the state, with a large number of students scoring in Band 6 or higher. Year 5 students performed well particularly in Writing, Spelling and Grammar & Punctuation, where their median test score was above the state.

Our Middle School students in Years 7 & 9 continued to show significant improvement. In each of the test domains, the relative growth of Year 7 students over the past two years was in the medium/high category, compared to students across the state that had the same NAPLAN scores two years ago. The Year 9 results also continued to show good progress. The relative growth of Year 9 students was in the medium and high categories in all test domains.

We would like to congratulate the students in Years 3, 5, 7 & 9 for their positive approach and outstanding effort in this national testing process.
