Max Koveos competing in long jump at the National Athletics Championship in Western Australia
Congratulations to Max Koveos, Year 10, who represented Victoria in the U17 Long Jump at the recent National Athletics Championship in Western Australia. Max jumped 5.75 metres to place in the top fifteen competitors for his age group in Australia.
On 18th March, the JMSS Year 10 Girls A Team played in the Divisional Volleyball Championships at Springers Leisure Centre. The first match was played against Wellington, which was won two sets to zero, with the scores of 50-29. After an exciting win we watched our next opponents play; South Oakleigh. The entire team were very confident, and it was clear that they worked well together. After coming to match point, we unfortunately were defeated with the end scores being 52-63.
We were a bit put off by the loss, and were having a shaky start against Wheeler’s Hill. After a timeout was called, we recollected ourselves, encouraged each other, and started to win some points. The end score was very close, with us 50-41.
We had one game left, and had to win to make finals. We were still buzzing from the last game and carried some of that energy to the Brentwood game, with the end score being 50-16. With our 3 wins and 1 loss, we had made it into the final, and we were playing South Oakleigh once again. After a slow start, we won the first set, but we lost the second by only a few points. The Boys B team had come to cheer us on, and that lifted our spirits, the energy levels rose, and our digs and sets became more strategic and powerful. The umpire called match point, and the determination from both sides was palpable, but in the end, the JMSS team won, and were crowned the victors, and we will now be moving onto the Regional Championships on Thursday 24th March.

On 18th March, the Year 10 Girls set out to play against Brentwood Secondary College and Wheelers Hill Secondary College in attempt of achieving the divisional title. As it was raining, our expected outdoor cricket match switched to an indoor match with partial outdoor rules.
In round one, Wheelers Hill was against Brentwood. Wheelers Hill won 42 - 17.
In round two, Brentwood was against us. Brentwood won 61 - 10.
In the final round, we played Wheelers Hill. They smashed us 64 - 32.
The defeat was hard to take, but we managed to come out again with hope. We will win next time we promise you! Thank you Ms Pizzol for giving us the opportunity to play in this Divisional Round Robin.
