Resilience Activities

The resilience topics covered this fortnight in Home Group were Building Rapport and Healthy Canteen Choices – Nutrition.

Nutrition Task

With an imaginary budget of $10 for the day, students were asked to look at the Lilydale High School Canteen Menu and put together a healthy selection of foods they could buy at recess and lunch;  'lunch order'.

Students were encouraged not to choose discretionary foods, which include: biscuits, cakes, pastries, processed meat, chocolate, burgers, fried foods, potato chips and other snacks high in salt and saturated fats.

Placing a lunch order allowed students to choose foods that are not always available when lining up at lunch. For example, salads, rolls and wraps etc.

Year 10 Melbourne Aquarium Excursion

On Friday 26 August, 39 Year 10 Science students attended the Melbourne Aquarium to look at the human impacts and subsequent challenges faced by marine communities and the ways in which they can be reduced.

In doing so, students discovered the difficulties of marine conservation and the obvious disconnect that exists beneath the water line.
