VCAL VIBES

Ms Julie Elkin

VCAL Teacher

Before the end of term students in Ms Elkin’s VCAL class constructed the ‘perfect egg’ by following explicit instructions and practising their use of a compass. From this egg (which could be divided into 9 shapes), they ‘hatched’ a bird!

Prior to visiting the National Gallery of Victoria for the Escher x Nendo exhibition, the VCAL class experimented with printing techniques using designs drawn onto a foam block. This was done in order to appreciate the intricate nature of Escher’s work. On return to classes this term, students experimented with tessellated patterns. There are some very creative people in this class!

For the next four weeks in Work Related Skills classes students have selected areas of interest to pursue such things as making model planes or solar carts; ‘re-skinning’ popular board games with a WRS focus; hospitality; designing ‘mini’ houses or dabbling in various textile projects. We look forward to what comes out of these groups, and may consider repeating this in the future.
