Intermediate Boys Football

On Wednesday, 1 May, the Intermediate boys football team played in the Geelong Region SSV Football competition. The NGSC team comprised of many EIS students from 2018 and 2019, as well as a number of bottom age Year 9 students. The boys defended well into the wind in the first half of their game against Belmont High School, and then capitalized with the wind in the last half, highlighted with 4 goals from Antoni Dunimagloski, running out 22 point winners. The team then played Newcomb and kicked poorly into the wind in the first half, scoring 3 goals and 8 behinds, however, they managed to keep Newcomb scoreless. In the second half, the boys turned things around and started to score with ease, on the back of Riley McFaddens dominant display in the ruck. The boys ran out easy winners, 9 goals, 12 behinds to 0.0.0.

We awaited the score between Grovedale and Bellarine Secondary Colleges to see who our opponent in the final would be. Grovedale overcame a rampant Bellarine to play off against NGSC in the final. NGSC started kicking slowly against the breeze, allowing Grovedale’s older, bigger bodied players to move with too much freedom to be down by 3 goals at Half time. NGSC rallied in the second half to keep Grovedale to one goal, and kicking one ourselves with Matt Jelenic kicking a goal from 55 meters. However, it was too little, too late with NGSC going down to Grovedale by 3 goals in the Geelong Final.

Well Done to all players and Excellence in Sports Staff for a fantastic display of football talent and work ethic on the day.

EIS SOCCER

On Wednesday, 1 May, Excellence in Sports Year Ten soccer students played their first friendly game against Geelong Grammar School. NGSC students travelled out to Geelong Grammar School, utilising the big ground to their advantage. The boys started well and managed to put scoring pressure on the opposition almost immediately. The EIS Team controlled most of the play in their forward half but just couldn’t convert for the first ten minutes. Antoni, James and Khalil all providing ample run and pressure on their Geelong Grammar counterparts. It didn’t take much longer into the game when Dylyn T managed to set up Antoni with space and time to convert in the 12th minute, putting NGSC up 1-0. Geelong Grammar began to move the ball with more precision and accuracy, getting two great header shots on goal, however, Meh Reh in goals managed to make two great saves, keeping the score at 1-0 in NGSC’s favour. James C was beginning to become a problem for Geelong Grammar, with his speed and precision, he set up Antoni for his second goal in as many minutes. It was once again Geelong Grammar’s turn to pepper the goals, and GGS managed to score from a great corner ball and header, 2-1 in favour of NGSC. NGSC once again gained control of the ball and our defenders where well on top, letting our midfield dominate their GGS opponents. It was from this dominant defending that Ricky Lee and Khalil combined to give Khalil a 1-1 against the GGS goalie, converting with the final score 3-1 to NGSC.

Well Done to the Year Ten Excellence in Sport students and staff in a dominant display. The Excellence in Sports Program looks forward to their next match against Geelong Grammar on 23 May.
