Kempsey High School absolutely dominated the drama and speech sections of the 2021 Kempsey Drama Eisteddfod, bringing home ribbons in numerous categories.

The secondary monologue section required students to present a solo performance memorised by heart. Year 9 drama student, Alice McNee took out first place with year 11 drama student, Amali Sheppard coming a close second. Students Colby Keenahan and Hannah Fraser also received Highly Commended ribbons.

Alice McNee also experienced success in several categories for public speaking, demonstrating her versatility as a performer.

In the Short Play section, Ella Ruthven, Colby Keenahan, Olivia Robinson, Amali Sheppard and Jade (Red) Wilkins performed their preliminary assessment piece, Fan Fiction, and took out first place.

The final section was the Impromptu Play. Students were given a topic and 10 minutes to create an original performance. Shi-Anne Dornan, Colby Keenahan, Jade (Red) Wilkins, and Hannah Fraser presented an exceptional piece that had the audience laughing.

This was such a valuable opportunity for Kempsey High School students to perform in front of an audience. The feedback from the markers and the experience of nerves, excitement and exhilaration following live performances, made for a great and memorable day.
