Xenica Community Report

Term 3, 2021

We are XENICA!

Our Online Learning at a glance for this month...

ReadingIn Term 3 Reading, students have been exposed to different reading strategies such as improving our comprehension, fluency, nouns, adjectives, verbs, wow words  and punctuation.

Writing

In Term 3 Writing, students have explored researching and writing information reports. We have learnt how to use a variety of platforms (books, videos and internet) to research a topic and sort out our information into sections. For example, sorting our information, classification, appearance, habitat, diet and life-cycle. Once we have finished researching and planning our reports. We then proceed to writing our information reports using subheadings, diagrams, labels and paragraphs. We also  included adjectives in our information reports.

Maths

In Maths Term 3, Xenica has been focusing on multiplicative thinking. We have been learning how to subitize, using dots and other items. We have also been learning how to share items equally into 2, 3, 4 and more groups, which then leads to learning about how many items are in a group and early multiplicative thinking. We are also focusing on repeated addition, groups of and arrays. As a community, we are practicing these topics and learning of new multiplicative strategies to help students develop their multiplication knowledge. Lots of practice makes better understanding of knowing multiplication and division. Here are some examples of student work from the Xenica community:

Inquiry

In Inquiry, students are exploring the topic of living things. Students have participated in a celery experiment to explore living things. We have added our celery to a cup filled with water and food dye. Students made a prediction about what they believed would happen to the celery when left for a few days. After days passed, it was found that some predictions were correct. Check out the pictures below to see the results!

  • Encourage your child to develop more independence. (Be prepared for remote learning, clean your learning area).
  • Encourage your child to take increased responsibility for their own belongings.
  • Establishing a regular routine helps students to develop a positive approach to learning and will benefit them as they progress through their schooling.
