Bastille Day

Joyeux 14 juillet!

Bastille Day is a happy time in France, during summer,  where families and friends get together to celebrate La Fête Nationale.  It commemorates the storming of the Bastille prison in 1789, when the people decided to rebel against Louis XVI and the French Monarchy.

The outcomes of La Révolution were the abolition of the Monarchy and the emergence of a new slogan for the French Republic: Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité (Freedom, Equality, Fraternity).

You can still see these three words at the front of public buildings in France.

We, at Fitzroy Primary School commemorated La Fête Nationale our own way.

Dorothee (Sophie`s mum) and Sophie (Thibault's mum) came to school to explain the origins of the celebration and we got to know a bit more about France. We also learnt a song called Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité.

The children were very interested by the history of France! Bravo!
