Year 5 – 10  Parent/Student/Teacher Interview Days

A reminder to all parents that Year 5 – 10 Parent/Student/Teacher interviews will be conducted online via the Whereby platform from 1.30 pm – 5.30 pm (Yrs 7 – 10) on Thursday 17 June and 8.00 am – 5.30 pm on Friday 18 June (Yrs 5 – 10), with teachers available according to their professional responsibilities and other duties at those times. For Years 7 – 12, Term 2 lessons will conclude from 12.00 pm on Thursday 17 June to allow students and staff to travel home and / or prepare for the interviews.

Oxford Falls

While maintenance works continue on our Oxford Falls Facilities, overseen by our dedicated Maintenance Team of Mr Noort, Mr Willoughby and Mr Williams, contingencies will be in place in terms of portaloos and safety exclusion zones to allow Year 10, 8 and 5 and 6 PD/H/PE and Sport Activities to continue this week. There will be no after-school training activities and unfortunately no parents are able attend the Junior School Dance presentation on Thursday afternoon. The performances will be streamed online from the link in the Junior School section of Woodchatta. Students will be  able to be picked up from Oxford Falls or return to Chatswood as normal to conclude the school term safely.

Winter Break and Return to Term 3

Best wishes to all students, staff and members of our community for a well-earned three week Winter break of rest recovery and recreation. There will be significant works taking place around both campuses of the College, overseen by our Maintenance staff who ensure our facilities are of high quality and standards. There are some scheduled classes and activities at the College as Year 12 students prepare for their Trial HSC Examinations and Major works submissions in Music, Drama, Technology, Art and History and Year 11 begin preparations for their end of Year 11 Assessments. These will be conducted in a safe manner around the works taking place and all are asked to be conscious of safe entrance, egress and operations at all times.

I remind students and parents that we return to school on Tuesday 13 July, with Monday 12 July being an NSW EREA Schools' professional development day with our staff working in faculties at Chatswood, Oxford Falls, Penrith, Lewisham, Waverley, East Gosford and Wollongong. All students return in full winter uniform including blazer, long pants, grey or black socks, polished shoes and uniform haircuts as per pages 15-16 of the College Diary. Please attend to any matters of uniform before Term 3 to avoid missed school time and maintain the high reputation of the College.

Normal activities and trainings will resume from Tuesday 13 July as we prepare for our ISA, CSDA and IPSHA commitments in Week 1 of Term 3 including Rugby at Kinross School in Orange.

As we prepare for the Winter Term break our thoughts and prayers go out to those members of our school community, both staff and students, who are grieving or recovering from illness, injury and operations at this time.

Reconciliation Action Plan

With NAIDOC Week celebrated over the coming weeks our Red Dirt Expedition will visit cultural sites of significance and learning, Aboriginal communities, and schools in Coonabarabran, Baradine, Coonamble, Walgett, Brewarrina and Bourke next week. Some chilly night temperatures in the Warrumbungles, and the mouse plague contingencies could test us however the students and staff are well prepared and determined to listen and learn about the realities of life in rural and remote NSW and the people who live there amongst a rich 40 - 60,000 year history.

The team will add to our Narragunnawalli RAP in the best traditions and spirit of Christian Brother Stephen Morelli who has dedicated the past 40 years to rejuvenating the North Coast Gumbaynggirr language and was awarded an Order of Australia Medal in the Queen's Birthday Honours list over the weekend.

Thank you to the staff of Mr Sam di Sano, Mr Fernando Mendez, Mrs Emma Fryar, Mr Nathan Mulheron and Mr Philip Stollery who are facilitating this rich learning experience for our students and school.

Well done to our debaters last Friday night in the highly commended ambassadorial manner in which they represented the College at Marist College Eastwood. Our 12B team won through to the elimination rounds this Wednesday and possibly Friday, while our 11B and 7B teams are undefeated and will contest the Quarter Finals of the CSDA hosted at St Pius X on the first Friday of Term 3. The whole debating team led by Ms Waterson and staff in the Senior School and Ms Spanyik in the Primary School have been a credit to the College throughout the Term.

CIS Cup 1st XI Football Semi Final

Our 1st XI Football take on our highly respected good friends of the College, Moriah College, Centennial Park, in the CIS Semi Final at Valentine Park tonight. Our student spectators are permitted to attend only if they are in full College Winter Uniform and travel with our school group, bussing from the College at 4.30 pm this afternoon. All are to maintain the highest standards of positive support and sportsmanship in support of our 1st XI squad and coaches Mr Quilty, Mr Yue and Mr Lacey. We look forward to enhancing the great reputation of our team, hard won over many years. Please follow all safety, behavioural protocols and instructions given to our team so as not to disappoint or draw the adverse attention of the security staff on hand to safeguard the event.

Fide et Labore

St Pius X College acknowledges our First Nations, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and particularly the Cammeraygal people,

whose interconnection with this land sustained and

fulfilled them mentally, physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually,

over thousands of years.

May we learn from their wisdom.
