Meet our new staff
Ms Lauren Hewett (Crokett)
Role at Boorowa Central School:
I am the newly appointed Teacher Librarian at Boorowa Central School and can’t wait to share my love of reading with our students.
Qualifications: Bachelor of Education Primary.
My career experiences so far:
I taught Year 1 and 2 at a school in the Sutherland Shire of Sydney for a few years but have made the tree change to Boorowa with my husband so we can share some of the joys that country living has to offer!
Why I became teacher:
I became a teacher because I wanted to share my love of learning. I attended public schools all my life and am privileged to have been taught by so many inspirational teachers; all who made a difference in their own way.
My feelings are best summed up by Rita Pierson; "Every child deserves a champion. An adult who will never give up on them, who understands the power of connection and insists that they become the best they can be."
I strive every day to be a champion for each of my students and make a positive difference in their lives.
Favourite teaching successes or moments:
I am always looking to share in the moments that make life fun, which means I love making an excuse to dress up in costume! My favourites so far have been the Very Hungry Caterpillar, Little Miss Princess, and The Scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz!
What do I hope to bring to Boorowa Central School: I found myself looking for jobs at Boorowa Central in every department staffing email I received, waiting for a right position to come up. In my first few weeks here, I have been made to feel so welcome by the school community, and can’t wait to bring my enthusiasm, passion, and energy to the team!
Something you do not know about me:
I played saxophone in high school!

What do I hope to bring to Boorowa Central School: I hope to bring a love of history to the school.

Ms Amy Green

Favourite teaching successes or moments: To see the students smiling faces every day and when they get those 'lightbulb' moments.

Something you do not know about me: I have a twin sister.
Ms Emily Friend
Role at Boorowa Central School: Year 1-2 Infants Teacher.
Qualifications: Bachelor of Early Childhood and Primary Education
My career experiences so far: I worked in Early Childhood Education and Care for nearly four years before moving into Primary teaching. This involved working with children from six weeks old up to four years old as an Assistant Educator, Room Leader, and Educational Leader. I also led the After School Care and Vacation Care program. Before moving to the Education sector, I worked in various hospitality establishments.
Why I became teacher: I actually wanted to become a teacher from a very young age. As I grew, I became interested in various other careers, but just kept circling back to teaching. As soon as I finished high school, I began my degree as it just felt right. I have always loved working with children, and through my first year of study, I realised just how interesting the growing brain is. As I am a new teacher, I am excited to continue developing my understanding of how children learn and grow, particularly in the early years of education.
Favourite teaching successes or moments: As I am still brand new with only about six months of teaching in my bag, my favourite moments are still when I see everything coming together within a teaching unit. When children succeed in their learning and are proud of themselves, I feel a sense of accomplishment as I know I helped them get there, and that is so special.
What do I hope to bring to Boorowa Central School: I am so excited to work with all the staff at Boorowa Central School as they have been nothing but supportive in my first meetings with them. I hope to bring an added smile to the already bright and bubbly school, as well as bring my Early Childhood experience in. My philosophy of teaching includes the notion of how important it is to learn through play and with concrete, relatable materials. I am excited to learn from my colleagues as well as include some of my own ideas in teaching and learning.
Something you do not know about me: I grew up in and around the Yass Valley and have family that live in Boorowa. I am also recently engaged.
Ms Maddi Pearsall
Role at Boorowa Central School: Primary RFF Teacher
Qualifications: Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood and Primary)
My career experiences so far: I have taught all years K-6 across various schools, my most recent experience was Relieving Principal at Rye Park.
Why I became a teacher: The reason I wanted to become a classroom teacher is very much my primary classroom experience as a student, I had some very inspirational teachers in my world.
Favourite teaching successes or moments: Helping students to love learning for a lifetime.
What do I hope to bring to Boorowa Central School: I hope to bring my gentle, enthusiastic, patient and happy nature to Boorowa Central School.
Something you do not know about me: I have travelled to over 10 different countries.

My goal as an Student Support Officer is to work alongside students to promote safety, resilience and pro-social behaviours, as well as being a point of call for students to seek advice, guidance, and support.
