Starting the year with success as our aim

Welcome to a brand-new year at Boorowa Central School. It is so good to see all of our students looking enthusiastic to be here, even if it's because they get to see their friends every day.

The way they dress well at the start of the year, shows pride in our school and their own special place in it. Let's try to keep that same look going all year long. If you need help with purchasing uniforms, please contact the office to ask for support so that all students are correctly dressed and can attend all events and activities as proud representatives of Boorowa Central School.

The start of the year also sees many of our students with fabulous home-made lunches and snacks which are better for growing brains of all ages. This can be supplemented by the fabulous new menu at the school canteen. Studies show that the additives in many packaged products may stop students from being able to concentrate, which means that they can't learn as easily. This makes it harder for teachers in the classroom, and also frustrating for the student who can't focus properly.  And without packaged snacks in their lunchboxes, there is also less litter in our playground, local streets, and streams. So home-made seems to be a win for health, learning and the environment.

Finally, seeing our students so well rested after their break, reminds me of the need for healthy sleep patterns for all students from K-12. Setting screen-free time for all (including adults), away from all devices as well as the television, will help all members of your house sleep better. Try to have screens turned off at least 30 minutes before bedtime and replaced with a book. For older students, mobile phones could be placed in another room, to avoid the distraction of notifications throughout the night, allowing them at least 8-10 hours’ sleep each night. I'm sure parents would love that much sleep!

As we all continue to settle into the 2023 school year, please remember to keep us informed of your child's needs, any changes in your circumstances, and if there is anything that you need us to know to ensure their educational journey is giving them the skills they need for success.

My door is always open to get to know you and your child no matter what year they are in.
