Year 7 & 8 Reflection Day

Year 7 and 8 students have participated in reflection days over the past couple of weeks.

I was able to work with both the Year 7 and Year 8 Student Leadership teams to develop themes and activities for the days.

The Year 7 students were able to go to the Eltham Community centre for their day. The theme chosen was ‘Together in Mercy’ and the students used this as a starting point to explore how they had developed in Mercy over their Year 7 journey. The 2022 Melbourne spring threw all of its craziness at us with rain, hail and cold. Nonetheless, the activities that the students organised were a lot of fun and an enjoyable and worthwhile time was had by all.

The Year 8 students worked mainly in the Dillon Centre. Their theme was ‘Friendship’. The activities for the day invited the students to consider how the Mercy Values of our College could and did find concrete expression through friendship and connection. One of the activities was the creation of a paper chain in which each link was an expression of gratitude from each of the Year 8 students.

Great reflection days are built on the willingness of the participants to engage thoughtfully with the topics. The students are to be congratulated for the levels maturity, flexibility and creativity that they brought to the days.
