2023 Harding Miller Education Foundation Scholarship

This an email excerpt from Harding Miller Education Foundation:

Recently we convened a scholarship selection panel to consider the applications for the 2023 Harding Miller Education Foundation Scholarships.  The selection process this year was incredibly competitive with 701 applications received from 285 schools - representing every State and Territory. MDHS year 8 student, Ella Hobbs has been awarded one of the Platinum Scholarships for 2023. The Platinum Scholarship has been designed to provide students with practical support to boost their educational achievements and career aspirations. Congratulations Ella.

PP Graduation

The Pre-Primary students had a visit from their parents on Wednesday last week, to farewell PP. Mrs Lamond showed a slideshow of some great photos from the year and then said some nice (and some humourous) words about each student. The parents then shared some food with their child, whilst looking at their work from the year. Thanks, Mrs Lamond for organising.

Year 6 Graduation

On Friday 9th December the year 6's celebrated their graduation at the Mukinbudin Sports Complex. With a green and gold theme, everyone was feeling very cheery and had a lot of fun. The students relived their childhood with games such as Pin the Moustache on the Teacher, Pinata and Pass the Parcel. We were privileged to view photos of each student growing up in a slideshow presentation. Thank you to everyone who attended and all the volunteers who helped with setting up and packing away as well as preparing and cooking food.

Kindy Orientation

Last week our 2023 Kindy students had their first taste of Kindy life when they came in for their orientation. From hanging their bags on the hook, to washing their hands before crunch and sip, it was a nice opportunity to learn a few of the routines that happen at Kindy for both the children and their parents! We look forward to having them next year!

Secondary Orientation

In Maths, the students participated in an ‘Escape Room’. They worked in small groups and solved problems involving negative integers over four levels of difficulty. Two groups managed to escape the room in the time given, but all groups reached Level 4 which was a great achievement.

In Science, we looked at three of the four main learning areas. In Chemistry we learned that some metals do actually burn and watched a piece of magnesium light up the science lab. The students also made hydrogen gas and tested it with a flame to see who got the best ‘pop’. In physics, the students learned that the smallest student in the class could lift the teacher into the air without much effort when using a lever. In Earth Science, we mined for chocolate chips from a cookie. The challenge was to mine as much chocolate without damaging the surrounding land (the biscuit).

In English/HASS we started a timeline of World History, concentrating on BC, AD and different events throughout the eras.
