Year 7 & Year 8

What's happening in the Learning Spaces?

Year 7 Physical Education

The Year 7s have been focussing on the skills of Athletics, Softball and Basketball over the course of Term 3 and Term 4. Just like the Year 6s, the 7s participated in a variety of Track and Field events during their sport lessons in preparation for the Inter-House Athletics Carnival. The 7s were very excited to be able to use the real Javelins for the first time. Towards the end of Term 3 the Year 7s were able to learn a variety of skills within the game of softball, such as, throwing, catching, batting, pitching, and fielding.

A real class favourite was focussing on the sport of Basketball. This sport choice had the most enthusiasm with students keen to demonstrate their current understanding of the game whilst learning new key skills around dribbling, passing, shooting and general game awareness.

Middle School Update

What a fantastic week we have enjoyed with students, staff and parents engaging in activities that have brought us together, highlighting the wonderful community of SCC.

On Monday afternoon, our Year 7 students and parents of 2023 gathered for an orientation which provided information to help with a smooth transition into next year.

Mrs Burrows, Mrs Thomas, Mrs Knight and Mrs Gilbert ran some fun activities to give the Year 6s a 'taste' of what they can learn and thanks to all teachers who helped in the smooth running of the afternoon.

On Thursday of last week and on Wednesday, Mrs Burgoyne and her Year 8 Religious Education students held their Service Learning stalls to raise money for the St Francis Parish community. There was a lot of planning involved, and the energy at both lunches was eclectic as the College student got involved in raising money for a very good cause. With the wonderful work of Mrs Burgoyne and the students, they raised over $1000, so they should be very pleased with their efforts.

Yesterday, Mrs Burrows provided our Year 8 students with a wonderful educational opportunity when they attended Parliament House for a day. It was great to hear so many positive comments about the day and which complemented what they have been learning in HASS this term. Thanks to Mr Meynell, Mr Old, Mrs Burgoyne and Mrs Osborne, who attended to ensure the day was a success.

The Music and Dance afternoon yesterday was a fantastic example of what dedication and commitment students and teachers can display when they work together. It was so impressive to see Mrs Knight and all the dance and music students performing after a year of after and before school and lunchtime practice. With families and teachers present, it was heart-warming to watch our young people use their God-given talents to show what they are capable of.

With two weeks to go in 2022, we ask that students and parents continue to support the College and our expectations and guidelines. For reference, these can be found on the school website and understanding them will ensure the year finishes on a positive note for everyone.
