F/1/2 News

The F/1/2 students have a great start back to term. They were all very excited to see their friends and share what they did on the school holidays.

We are in for another big term with lots of learning. In Religion, we will start the term by finalising our learning about Lent and Easter.

Our Maths focus will be addition and subtraction. The students will be learning about common strategies to complete addition and subtraction problems, such as using manipulatives, counting on, counting back, and known facts. They will also start to explore the relationship between addition and subtraction.

In English we will be focusing on Narratives. We will be looking at the purpose of Narratives, their features and how to summarise a narrative. We have already started working on the 5 finger retell (summary) of a Narrative. All F/1/2 students will be going home with a 5 finger retell bookmark to help them summarise their take home readers to the person that they have read to each night. We will also be working on grammar and types of sentences over the next few weeks. In particular how questions, commands, requests, statements, offers, and exclamations differ in structure and purpose.

This term's Cross Curriculum focus will be “People live in places”. Our key inquiry question for the first few weeks is “What are places like?”. Within this question:

  • Students investigate the places they live in and belong to.
  • They understand that places vary and people have different views about the use of places.
  • They observe and describe the features of their own place and investigate the meaning of belonging to a place.
