This week in Gr 5 and 6, most students have returned ready to learn, which is pleasing. This Term, we have discussed our Class Goals. The students decided to choose these goals:

  • Speak when spoken to
  • Walk into the classroom silently and with respect
  • Show respect to others.

In Religion we are finished off the theme How Can Lent Transform Our Lives and move into Pentecost - Celebrating the Spirit.

On Monday, the students started their Cross Curriculum unit for this Term, which focuses on Geography. Our subheading is: What Can We Learn About The Map of the World? During this lesson, some of the questions asked of the students were to find the seven continents and the oceans of the World and the seven natural wonders of the World.

We will also be focusing on learning the songs and dances for the Festival of the Sacred which is in June.

In Maths, we are finishing off the unit on Patterns and Algebra. Then over the next couple of weeks, we will focus on using units of measurement when measuring distance, volume, capacity and area and perimetre, for example: mm, cm, m, mL and kg.

For World Earth Day, on Saturday 22rd April, the students made a Pledge on what they would and would not do to help the World. Some suggestions were to use less water and electricity and to recycle more often.

The students also looked at a presentation on ANZAC Day and responded to the questions on what they thought it would have looked, felt, sounded and smelt like in the trenches at Gallipoli. The students discussed other words to describe what ANZAC Day has come to symbolise and learned more about the meaning behind Dawn Service, The Last Post and The Reveille.
