Principal's Report
Dear families,
Welcome back to school for Term 2. Our students have settled in very well after the holidays and I want to thank our staff and families for your contribution to a smooth start to the term. We do have a number of events taking place this term so please continue to engage with our communication methods and touch base with your child’s classroom teacher where needed.
P&C AGM
We will be having another AGM on Friday the 28th of April from 9:00 – 11:00 in our Meeting Room. Please consider being a part of the P&C which has contributed in amazing ways to our school.
Celebrating Guidance Officer Recognition 24th April – 5th May
Guidance Officer Recognition is an opportunity to say thank you to all of the amazing work our Guidance Officer, Troy Perkins is doing. This year marks 75 years of guidance support in Queensland state schools. Guidance officers are specialist teachers who deliver a broad range of services to school community members. They contribute to the development of a comprehensive student support and wellbeing program that is responsive to the needs of the school community. Guidance Officers may work directly with students in addition to working with a student's teachers, school support personnel, families, other specialists or external support providers. Support offered by guidance officers includes providing advice and counselling on educational, behavioural, vocational, personal, social, family, and mental health and wellbeing issues. Guidance Officers provide leadership, support and case management in responding to some of the most complex and challenging of circumstances including student protection matters, critical incidents, mental health issues, and suicide prevention and postvention support. Guidance Officers require a diverse range of skills and knowledge and an ability to form strong and productive relationships with key stakeholders in order to develop and implement plans and programs that are responsive to the needs of students. Thank you very much Troy for all of the work you do in this space.
Facilities
We have purchased new desks for the Secondary School as the current furniture were looking a bit outdated.
Thank you to everybody for your patience during this construction phase of our new building and the revamping of B Block. At times it feels like we are surrounded by all things ‘construction’ and the school looks 'less neat' than it usually does. I know we have to go through this phase and therefore appreciate all of our family's patience.
Grade 6 Captains Speeches
I attended the Grade 6 Captains speeches session this morning. All of the students speeches were amazing and students spoke with confidence. This is testament to the staff’s preparation of the event. Well done to Logan, Rory, Xavier, Rashad, Bradley, Zoe, Abbey and Stanley for your willingness to be a School Captains and preparing your speeches.
Stop, Drop and Go Zone
The correct utilisation of these zones helps minimise local traffic impacts and helps ease congestion and wait times. It is important to always follow the directions and time limits imposed by road signs near schools, and to remain courteous to your fellow motorists. Most ‘Stop, Drop and Go’ zones allow a few minutes to drop off or pick up passengers, but you must not leave your vehicle other than to open the doors for passengers
For ‘Stop, Drop and Go’ zones to work safely and efficiently, it is important to stick to a number of rules including:
• If your child is not waiting for you and you have exceeded the posted wait time, leave the area to allow other parents to access the zone
• Never remain in the zone for longer than specified, and stay with your vehicle
• Ensure your child exits the vehicle on the kerb side, not into the traffic lane
• Do not block intersections or driveway accesses.
• Do not stop in a traffic lane impeding the flow of traffic trying to travel through the area
• Move forward in the queue as space becomes available to eliminate the need to perform more difficult parking manoeuvres and
• Remain courteous to other motorists.
We understand that it can be frustrating trying to find a spot in the school car park, which may lead to drivers overstaying their allowed time limit in set-down areas. To alleviate this, you may consider parking a few hundred metres from the school and walking to the gate – this saves the traffic issues, and provides an opportunity for exercise.
Have a wonderful Term 2 ahead.
Kind regards,
Dehlia
