Solomon House

House Competitions

Will Snowden (Solomon House Captain)

So far this year, Solomon House’s efforts across the House competitions have been amazing. As a collective, our performance in House Athletics was impressive, with some great individual performances by Tarkyn O’Leary and Charlie Wilce who were respectively the first and third best Year 12 athletes. Winning the Year 12 tug-of-war event and having several top 10 place getters in the Hackett Mile was also a highlight.

To round out Term 1’s House Competitions was Public Speaking and Debating. Our Public Speaking representatives showed plenty of fight to finish in the top 3, whilst our solid Debating team reached the grand final, where they narrowly missed out on winning the competition.

Solomon House has the belief that it is a major contender for this year’s Beda Shield and we are resolved to giving 110% in the remaining events to ensure the shield returns to our great House.

MAD Fundraising

Jeremy Cormick (Solomon House Vice-Captain)

With Mission Action Day’s significance on the St Bede’s calendar, it was key goal of Solomon House to rise to the occasion and be a pioneering example of how fundraising could be achieved and how donations could be generated.

In addition to the MyCause platform used by individual students to generate donations, each Solomon tutor group endeavoured to host a fundraising event. This included ice-cream sales, a Cadbury chocolate drive, 3-on-3 Basketball competition, a Milwaukee Raffle, sausage sizzles, an online Chess competition, a paper-plane competition, hot chips sales and a 'Longest Hit' T-Ball competition.  Almost $4,000 was raised from these events alone and emphasised Solomon House’s exemplary commitment towards its ‘concern for the poor’.

This Lasallian principle was further demonstrated late last year with Solomon House’s contribution towards the Vinnies Christmas appeal.

Solomon House endeavours to be the most charitable House and will continue to invest its efforts towards all aspects of College life, while also building on a culture that celebrates mateship, generosity and perseverance.

Commitment, Leadership and Effort

Tarkyn O’Leary (Solomon House Vice-Captain)

It has been great to witness the high level of eagerness, participation, engagement and commitment shown by Solomon students towards College events. Leadership has been exhibited not just by our formal leaders, but by many of our Solomon students by the way they volunteer their time and services, and how they connect with others and bring others together.

There is a genuine drive across the House for all students to succeed and to be involved. Our House’s leadership, effort and commitment is developing into something pretty special and wonderful and we look forward to seeing the fruits of this spirit across the remainder of the year.

House Coordinator Report

I am very proud of the efforts of our Solomon students across all events and endeavours at the College so far this year. This has resulted in many personal and collective successes. At the start of the year, every member of Solomon House recognised the qualities they wanted to be known for and these continue to be pursued on a daily basis. Solomon House is determined to be the best dressed, the most hardworking, the most organised, the most punctual, the most respectful and the most successful. Everyone’s best efforts and commitment is needed if these goals are to be achieved and celebrated, and given what has been demonstrated so far this year, I have no doubt we will realise our goals.
