Parent/Carer Input - Student Mobile Phone Policy

As indicated last year, the Student Mobile Phone Policy is currently under review. An important part of this review is ensuring that parents, staff and students have an opportunity to inform what the policy consists of. As such, we are seeking parent input via the survey linked below.

There is both research and opinion on what Mobile Phone Policies in schools should look like. Many States in Australia - including Victoria - have mandated a ‘no phone’ policy in government schools. There are many educators who agree with this stance, however there are also many who believe that students are denied an opportunity to develop responsibility and, as such, an authentic learning experience is lost. There is no doubt that mobile phones, when used properly, can also complement classroom learning in some areas.

An added dimension when considering the make up of the policy is looking at the use of mobile phones from a wellbeing and safety perspective. This too will influence individual thoughts regarding the policy. As St Bede’s College provides an holistic education, each of these perspectives carry weight.

In seeking your input, we ask that you consider your own experience and what you see happening with students and their learning from many perspectives. Should you wish to do some investigation of your own, there is a significant amount of commentary online. Should you wish to provide input, please do so via the form linked below.

We thank you for your ongoing support of, and involvement in, the education provided at St Bede’s College. Submissions are welcome until COB Friday May 12.
