Work Experience

Sherlyn Antony - Year 11 Student

Welcome back everyone to another exciting Term ahead.

I would like to share an unexpected experience, that was offered by the school. During the course of the holidays, I got to experience a placement in a hospital under the guidance of the school. This is a Year 10 workplace experience that is offered in all sectors that students can undertake in order to get exposure to work life. When I started my work experience, I thought it’s just something unnecessary but out of the blue, what I got to experience there was unbelievable. I was assigned in different sectors within the Hospital and was given a  task each day to complete. I had to look after patients in the ward and serve them exactly as a nurse does. Also, I looked after patients who were recovering from anesthetics. The coolest experiences among all of them is the section of Radiography. I explored CT scans, MRIs, ultra sounds and X rays; I even looked at live imaging on the spot. I also had a chance to look at live procedures, that was done in the arteries to the heart, with real patients, which was really cool.

Another part was experiencing the work life of physiotherapist and dietitian, who gave me a lot of insight about what their job is. Overall it was a great exposure for me, to decide what I wanted to do. I would strongly recommend everyone to have a look at it, as it is really worthwhile. I would like to thank the school for giving me this opportunity and I would encourage anyone who is interested, to do the experience.

Thank you and I hope everyone will look into it to make the most out of this opportunity.
