School Access Monash

Schools Access Monash
YEARS 9 AND 10
This program aims to encourage students to consider future studies at a university level. All students started off the program by attending a leadership day.
Year 10 Champions
Ivana Deam and Maya Daniels had to develop and present a report on the building of a “Music Bowl” in a Berwick park from an economist’s point of view. They worked with Monash student mentors Tyson Parkes and Keira Unmack.
The students attended a two day camp during Term 2 holidays at Monash University Clayton campus.
"It was an insightful and hugely beneficial experience that opened my eyes and helped me develop a better understanding for my future careers". Ivana
“Access Monash was a great experience that helped me gain an understanding of university life and the opportunities available”. Maya
Year 9 Champions
Samuel Elliott, Jessica Maltby, Bethany Hobby, Zara Mazzei and James Li (Year 11) developed their own project, a Trivia Competition to raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital.
They worked with Monash mentors Nic Taylor and Miranda Lucas. To get money for prizes, they ran a bake sale. They then ran the Trivia competition as a lunchtime activity.
All agreed that they had improved their leadership skills through their involvement in the program and they raised $106 for a very worthwhile charity.
“Throughout the Access Monash Champion's Program I learnt several things. The most important was learning that it wasn't how much we gave (to the charity) that made it worth-while, it was the happiness I gained after trying my best to give to those in need. “ Zara
“I learned that being part of the team is crucial and doing your part of the job is very important. Individual skills and personal organisation are important factors when you are a part of the team.” James
Congratulations to all students involved for your hard work and willingness to participate.
