Recreation Activities

We are half way through the school year already! Time certainly flies by in boarding... In amongst all the Winter sport commitments, we squeezed in a few in-house activities. The girls all enjoy Friday night gym sessions and always ask for a Saturday night session.

MIB Movie Marathon

We had a TV dinner and watched Men In Black for a MIB marathon in the lead up to MIB International being released at cinemas. Thirty minutes into the movie and only four girls were watching; the rest had eaten their dinner and wandered off.

Maybe movie marathons aren’t our thing?

Perhaps a different movie?

Craft Time

I purchased an old nappy change table on Gumtree with the intention of putting our craft things on it. We sanded it back and painted it white. Most girls were happy to check on the progress as they went about their day, with Lily, Dannielle and Chelsea all enjoying helping out with the task. Now complete, it looks great in the corner near the sewing machine.

Mrs Franzinelli was kind enough to donate some unused craft items to Endeavour House. One rainy Sunday afternoon, we moved a table in front of the heater, got all the craft items out and held a crafternoon. It was much easier to clean up than the slime we previously made! Winter is a great time to get crafty and we intend on doing more craft next term. Let me know if you have a skill you would like to share with us.

We have my sewing machine (my mum and dad bought it for my 21st birthday) in Endeavour House for the girls to use. We have a few skilled sewers and some girls tried sewing this term. We are happy to teach those that are interested and would like to learn next term. I have spent quite a bit of time untangling and rethreading. I’m pretty sure my mum did the same for me many years ago. We would love any unused fabric, cottons, elastic and buttons if you have any of these looking for a good home.

Miss Alkira Miller is our wonderful Gap Assistant. She likes to keep the girls busy when she is on shift. This week some Year Nine students and Miss Miller made an oatmeal, honey and yoghurt facemask and applied it. They are all looking much smoother now with open pores! Miss Miller also enjoys sewing and some of the girls have been working on projects with her. She is pictured here next to our new craft station.

Blue Tree Project

We painted a dead branch blue as part of the Blue Tree Project and have put it into the Endeavour House garden. This project raises awareness about mental health and suicide. We enjoyed painting it together and it is important to talk about current and relevant issues with teens.

Cooking Competition

Mrs Symonds initiated a cook-off with the Year Seven girls on the last weekend of term. This was loads of fun with Mrs Symonds, Charlie and Faith judging the cooking. I’m not sure who won the competition, however I know they enjoyed eating all the delicious food that was prepared.

Fundraising

Does your child have time to collect a few bags of manure over the holidays? If so, we would be very pleased to sell some it to raise funds for a local charity. Please contact me for further information.

We are looking for donations of Moccona coffee jars for our Kingfisher Fair project. The Kingfisher Fair is the school’s biennial fair and will be held late in Term Three. We are planning on making cookie in a jar with the Breaksea House girls. Please drop jars off to boarding if you have any you would like to donate.

Birthdays

Happy birthday to Jacinta, Brianna and Mary who celebrated their birthdays this term.

I remember when my girls came to GSG boarding and I considered that one of the benefits of boarding was to build independence. I saw this quote recently and it was very apt for me. Perhaps it is for you too:  A mother’s job is to teach her children to not need her anymore. The hardest part of that job is accepting success.  — Source Unknown.

Have a lovely break with your gorgeous girls. Can I ask you to please check your child's hair for headlice before returning them to boarding for Term Three.
