Chook Tractor

This term has seen the Anchorage boys take on the challenge to build a mobile chicken coop 'tractor' from scratch, to be donated to help raise funds at the Kingfisher Fair on 8 September. I asked Henry to find a design and off we went. Taking a group of eager boys through Bunnings was a bit of fun and they found plenty of things to distract themselves. Kaden and Jack bought enough materials to make themselves a billy cart. We have all agreed that every Anchorage boy will contribute to helping to build our 'chook tractor.'  With works about half way through, special mention must go to Henry Egerton-Warburton, Hamish Medway, Daniel Fisher, Trenton Hams, Sidney Wreford, Brendan Quick and Bailey Peacock. Every other boy has come out and chatted or helped out in some way while work was going on.  It’s so nice to see the boys being productive in this way.

The Anchorage House boys have bundles of energy and we wouldn’t want this to change. From time to time, it can lead to wrestling, balls being played indoors and general boisterous behaviour.  The Anchorage supervisors know that getting them outside and running about is a good solution for this energy and this has become our general rule in the afternoons.

From time to time, boys may do something silly and break a rule (or a window). The important thing is what happens next.  We have put a great deal of emphasis on honesty in recent weeks. There isn’t too many things we can’t forgive, so the best policy is to own up to things. The punishment will be less and honesty is an important character strength. I’ve had some great conversations with boys recently on the importance of this. It’s particularly rewarding to see a frustrated boy who is gated, come around a day later and talk in a mature, open way about his actions and what he intends to do in the future.  It’s one of the best things about working in boarding.

Birthdays

Happy birthday to Sidney, Darcy, Mitchell and Alexander who all recently celebrated their special days.

Leaders Report

The year is flying past, with everyone having fun and looking forward to the holidays. On

Wednesday 19 June, Mr Goggins took a group of boarders to a documentary called 2040. It was good to learn what the world will look like in 2040 if we keep up our bad habits of doing thing that destroy the world.

So far this term, everyone has had great fun doing recreation activities, including watching movies on weekends, roller skating and golf at the Kalgan Golf Course. We all look forward to recreation activities that are just as fun as those from this term.

I hope everyone has a fun, safe and enjoyable holiday with family and friends.
