The school and our School Council understand there have been questions about how fundraising money is spent. School Council is responsible for determining how the school raises funds beyond the funding provided by the Department; this includes parent payments and fundraising. We acknowledge that communication around the total amount of money raised and how this money is spent needs to improve in the New Year.

Spending within the school revolves around the goals of the Strategic Plan.  School Council has a role in developing the school’s program budget in accordance with these goals.  For example, in the 2016 School Review, the need to invest significantly in the professional development of all staff in order to achieve the desired growth in educational outcomes for our students was clearly identified and the PD allocation increased accordingly.  Budget allocations should always focus on the implementation of the AIP.

This year our Plant & Produce Markets have raised just over $7,370*, with our Fabulous Foundie Families raising the most money this year (just over $1,400) – not that it’s a competition! Not only do our students (and teachers!) adore the homemade sweet treats and beautiful little plantings, this money is a wonderful addition to our school funds and will be spent on enrichment programs such as the productive garden, additional ICT resources, and various small initiatives that are decided on by the school council. After a review of our fundraising and communication methods, and in response to feedback to CET and school council, starting from next year we intend to proactively and regularly communicate with all community members about fundraising goals and how money is being spent with an aim to increase transparency and engagement.

We thank all the families for their engagement in Plant & Produce and all other fundraising and social activities this year. We couldn’t do it without you.

*In the first release of this newsletter there was an error in the total funds raised, listing $3,750 raised throughout the year, when the actual total is $7,370.75. We apologise for this error.
