PRINCIPAL'S REPORT

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Carmel Purdey

A new term!

A warm welcome back to all in this new term. We look forward to a great term together of learning and fun. It is a ten-week term.

Our Grade 4 children will celebrate the Sacrament of Eucharist for the first time. Our 5/6 children will take part in inter-school sport. Our Foundation,1 and 2 students are working on an Inquiry unit - The World of Toys, the 3/4/5/6 students are beginning a unit on Government. I look forward to hearing about all the learning!

I am delighted to be here at St Agnes’. I will be sharing the role with Margaret O’Donnell, who is currently a Principal Consultant with Catholic Education Melbourne. Margaret was previously the principal of St Gregory’s School Doncaster. We are in regular communication with each other and we are both happy to be working with this wonderful community. I have previously worked as principal at St Joseph’s School Yarra Junction, St Francis Xavier School Box Hill, St Francis Xavier School, Villa Maria Ballarat and St Peter’s School Clayton. I have also worked with Catholic Education Melbourne.

I have been most impressed with our St Agnes children. They play happily in the playground and are well mannered. I thank you all for the welcome I have received.

School Improvement Cycle

All Catholic Schools participate in the School Improvement Cycle. The main purpose of this cycle is to assist schools to work towards improving learning for our children and the second purpose is to meet the accountability requirements of the government and sector authorities.

St Agnes School is moving into the External Review phase of the cycle. The Review will take place in 2020. It is an ongoing process and the work for the Review has already begun. The School Closure day on 2 September will continue some of this work.

The Review key questions are:

  • How are we going?
  • How do we know?

An evidence-based approach is taken by schools in this process. You will hear more about this as we continue the process.

Hospitality

In the Gospel at Mass on Sunday we heard the story of Jesus visiting the home of Martha and Mary. There are several interpretations of this Gospel. One of the themes is “hospitality”. Let’s all practise generous hospitality with each other this week!

With my best wishes to you all
