Seasons For Growth
Dear families,
During this term we will be running our Seasons For Growth Program.
Seasons For Growth is an evidence-based educational program founded by the Sisters of St Joseph, which stemmed from a need to build self-esteem in young people. The purpose of this program is for a facilitator (trained teacher) to act as a companion to listen to participants and help them develop life skills that will help them cope in their daily lives when dealing with issues relating to change, grief and loss. For example it could be a change of family structure (due to separation), a change of house (due to a disaster like a flood or fire) or it could be the loss of a close relative. These issues can often have a major impact on young people and it can affect their coping strategies during their time at school.
The objective of Seasons for Growth is not to counsel the group, rather to educate and provide the opportunity for young people to acquire knowledge, skills and attitudes that can assist them when adapting to change. It involves a number of non-threatening activities and discussions about how to deal with change in their lives. Like the seasons, we all go through changes and it can often help when young people can talk in a group where others are experiencing change as well.
This has been a very successful program in the past at St Laurence’s and we will be offering this throughout Term 2. If you would like your child to be involved in this program, please email Christy Roberts on croberts@stlleongatha.catholic.edu.au
Congratulations
To Joel and Stacey on the birth of their daughter Octavia Paetyn Taylor on 7 March.
