Acting Principal Report

Mr Chris Grimmer

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to Term 4.  As always the school year is extremely busy and Term 4 will be no exception.  Next Wednesday 16th October is the first day of our whole school review.  Throughout the day our school leadership team will be meeting with the reviewer Jill Jackson and our region’s Senior Education Improvement Leader.  Over the period of the review we will be visiting classrooms, speaking to students, teachers and parents to ensure we gather as much feedback as we can about the College’s strengths and areas for improvement.  We have also invited Mrs Jo McQuinn (Irymple SC Principal) and Mrs Belinda Hudak (Mildura Senior College Principal) to join our review team. They will act as challenge partners during the review and their knowledge and expertise will certainly enhance the conversations and level of planning throughout the four days.  The information received during the review period will guide us as we develop a new Four Year Strategic Plan for Merbein P-10 College which will outline our goals, key improvement strategies and actions from 2020 – 2024. The other dates for our review are Monday 28th, Tuesday 29th and Thursday 31st October.

Extended Sick Leave

Some families may have been aware that Mrs Kirstin James was on sick leave for the final four weeks of last term. This leave will continue throughout Term 4 at this stage while Kirstin recovers from illness.  Kirstin’s classes will be covered during this time and we hope to see her back, fully recovered in the near future.

China Trip

During the holidays our students and Mr Johnson returned safely from their trip to China to visit students and staff from Dali No.1 Middle School.  Once again the trip was highly successful and we look forward to hearing about the highlights at our next whole school assembly.  I would like to thank and acknowledge Mr Johnson for all the work he put into organising the trip and ensuring our students had a great experience that will stay with them for many years to come!

Reminder - Final Student Free Day for 2019

School Council has approved Monday 2nd December as our final Student Free Day for 2019.  Staff will be working on School Wide Positive Behaviours, Professional Learning Communities, School Review feedback and 2020 planning on this day.
