Preps Learning from Home

The week in prep started with a video assembly presented by Mr Millar and the school captains. An appreciation to them for helping us feel connected to our school routines.

In reading we have been retelling events in sequence, practising the strategy to use the picture to help read words with accuracy and to make predictions. We have been identifying and naming the parts of a book and tested our adults on their knowledge too. They passed!

In writing we have been matching our pictures to words and leaving appropriate spaces between our words to create easy to read sentences. We have also been practising fine motor coordination to cut around objects to make a collage and studying words with the ‘sh’ blend.  We have all made a special ‘Ideas’ box that we will keep adding to help spark ideas for our writing.

In math we have been exploring and investigating the features of Australian money and thinking about what we use money for. We have started to explore and think about if an object changes or looks different when we practise the transformations of ‘slide’ and ‘flip’.

As part of our integrated unit, our preps have been looking around their home and local areas to identify how we can keep these environments clean, healthy and safe. We have been thinking about what pollution means and what this looks like in our environment.

The prep teachers are all very excited to trial a ‘meeting’ with their classes on Google Meet on Friday. It will be lovely to see your faces, hear your voices and practise using yet another feature of Google Classroom to update our skills.

A reminder that if you have any concerns about remote learning to please get in touch with child’s teacher.

Have a great week learning.
